Last year at this time, folks in the north were probably starting to get nervous about the lack of moisture. Through February 8th, some areas of northeast South Dakota had less than a half foot of snow! And those dry conditions lasted into the summer, causing a drought.

However, that is not the case this year. Places like Aberdeen and Watertown are having the snowiest start to winter since the 2010/2011 season. Just look at the numbers.

Through February 8th of last year, Aberdeen had about a half foot of snow. But this year, they have had 30 extra inches!

Watertown had 10.6 inches through early February but this year, they have seen over 36 inches!

Mobridge has seen over 20 inches of snow when compared to last year.

And Pierre has seen about double what they got last year.

And these aren’t even the most impressive numbers.

The biggest difference is in Sisseton. Last year, they got 3.6 inches of snow through early February but this year, they are sitting at over 42 inches!

Wheaton has seen about two extra feet of snow when compared to last year and Kennebec is sitting about 8 inches more than last year.

The moisture is probably a welcome sight to those who were struggling to get moisture last year and if the kiddos in the north are anything like me, then the extra snow is, for sure, a welcome sight.
