A young child was assaulted in a Sainsbury’s car park in Canterbury.

The child was left with a minor injury after being assaulted while in the back of a car in the car park in Kingsmead Road at around 3.20pm on Wednesday (May 8)

A man and a woman were also there and it is believed that they had been involved in an argument.

Following initial enquiries, police officers arrested a 54-year-old man from Canterbury on suspicion of assault the next day (May 9)

He has been released on bail until next Wednesday (May 22).

Officers investigating would like to hear from anyone parked up nearby who might have seen what happened. Any witnesses should call Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting reference 46/87492/19.
