Explosions were reportedly heard in Canterbury last night (February 22).

They are thought to have occurred shortly before midnight.

Alex Perkins, former Canterbury City Council leader tweeted: "That’s three loud explosions in the #Wincheap #Canterbury area that n [sic] the last 5 minutes.

"Anyone know what is going on? #explosions #bangs."

Mr Perkins was not the only one that noted the loud bangs.

Dan van Orsouw commented: "I heard them too, Alex.

"Sounds bigger than just a firework..."

Hazeel Addley tweeted: "Heard them in the UKC end of town too."

Kent Police has been contacted for further information.
