Mayo Clinic Health System announces closure of Springfield, Lamberton facilities

SOUTHERN MINNESOTA (KEYC) - Mayo Clinic Health System announced Tuesday that it is set to close its Springfield and Lamberton facilities on March 1, 2020. The health system announced it will close its hospital and emergency departments in Springfield, as well as its clinics in Springfield and Lamberton.

Facilities in both cities reported difficulty recruiting and keeping doctors and low patient numbers and emergency department use.

According to the city, Allina Health will be located at the Mayo Clinic Health System site located at 625 N. Jackson Ave. when they vacate the site in March. Services include primary care, specialty care consultations, telehealth, virtual visits, medical imaging, lab services and rehabilitation services.

“The next steps are we want to do everything we can to minimize any disruption and minimize any time that this community doesn’t have a clinic and ambulatory services and other important medical services. So we’re aiming for sometime early spring 2020.”

The city also says Allina Health will also expand its partnership with St John’s Lutheran Home to provide care for residents.

The Allina Health Clinic in Springfield plans to be fully operational in Spring 2020.
