Thousands of new trees are being planted at Atkinson Park in Bismarck.
The recreation area now has a parking lot, and the trail, for both horses and people, has been improved.
The Bismarck Parks and Recreation District worked with Audobon Dakota to remove dead trees and brush. Now, they are working to put in close to 5,000 new trees. Some of the trees have been planted, and are being held up by plastic cones.
“It's an urban wooded area, again in a municipal park district you don't see those areas that often and we're very fortunate in Bismarck to have a piece of property like that,” Bismarck Parks and Recreation Executive Director Randy Bina said.
The park is in south Bismarck, off of Riverwood Drive.
