Bismarck BMX track preps for weekend state finals
Children and adults of all ages are peddling their way to Bismarck this weekend for the North Dakota BMX State Finals.
The FasTrax BMX track in Bismarck was made into a non-profit in 2017.
Parents and racers not only put their blood, sweat, and tears into racing, but also into maintaining the track.
A dirt track that’s been fulfilling dreams since 1982.
"Moms and dads just keep putting it together and keep it going here," said Director Jamy Mills.
In 2017, when the director stepped down from the podium, Jamy stepped up to take over the track.
"It's 100% worth it, because when you get out here and put the blood, sweat and tears into it, at the end of the day, the kids are out here having a good time in a positive atmosphere," said Mills.
Since taking over the track, the number of racers has doubled, with more adults racing in the weekly competitions.
"In two years we've grown and were averaging over 120, last night we did a 130 rider night, which is just amazing for our small community here," said Mills.
And with growth, staff is implementing new upgrades and features to the track
"New starting hill, new starting gate. Everyday were just adding new stuff," said Mills.
This weekend the nationally ranked track will host the North Dakota BMX State Finals.
"We'll have over 200 kids, parents, and riders racing," said Mills.
Those racers are hoping to jump their way to the top of the champion's podium.
Races begin Friday night with the qualifying rounds at 7:00 p.m., followed by the state finals and Dakota series finals on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
