The Bismarck Mandan Rail Bridge has been named one of America's Top 11 Most Endangered Historic Places by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

The Friends of the Rail Bridge group made the announcement and reiterated the importance of preserving the structure. They brought up its history of connecting the country as the first bridge to cross the upper Missouri.

"This bridge is historic, it needs to be preserved. I love it, I love the big stone pillars on this bridge. You don't get construction like that anymore, and to tear that down would be a shame. That stuff has stood and will stand for another 300 years. It's really, really well built," said Bob Wefald, Bismarck resident.

The rail bridge is older than the Eiffel Tower in France.
