According to the National Children Alliance, nearly 700-thousand children are abused at homes in the U.S. each year. A Bismarck group is working to change the stat.

To celebrate National Child Abuse Prevention month, the Bismarck Prevention Task Force hosted a family make and take. The lessons educate parents and children using stories, arts and crafts and gift making.

"We just help them kind of navigate and so we can take a tough time that's really difficult and really help ease them through that process and help them on the road to healing," said Paula Condol, Dakota Children's Advocacy Center.

Condol says they may need to find a different venue as awareness continues to grow.
