Bismarck schools superintendent Jason Hornbacher had many sleepless nights in his first sixth months on the job. He already handled teacher negotiations and building the relationship with teachers and the community. As he continues to grow into his new role, he says the next issue to address is the how the district continues to grow.

Bismarck Public Schools has seen 15 consecutive years of growth. Hornbacher says the board is currently working on a strategic plan, addressing everything from academics to culture to how much space it will need for students. Since the plan is in the early stages, all options are open.

“Whether that's some short-term solution with portables or it might be building buildings in the future. I think these are decisions and conversations that we have enough information to the school board so they can make informed decisions about the directions,” said Hornbacher.

Hornbacher says the strategic plan will likely go to the school board by March or April.
