According to the Center for Biological Diversity, the average American family takes home almost 1,500 plastic shopping bags a year. But only one percent of those are recycled. A Bismarck business teamed up with a rescue organization to lower those numbers locally.

Stella's invited people to create custom reusable grocery bags, with pet designs, hoping to cut down on overall plastic bag use.

A portion of the sales will also be donated to Furry Friends Rockin' Rescue to be used for vet and food costs.

"I love that people can come here, they can do something creative, they can do something fun. They're raising money for a charity and they're doing something that's close to my heart, is reducing the waste that we have," said Darcie Malsam, Co-owner Stella's.

More than 15 families created reusable bags and $150 will be donated to the rescue.
