In November, Bismarck voted for a half cent sales tax to pay for arterial roadwork through the city.

The tax went into effect in April of this year. City Engineer Gabe Schell says they will collect on the tax for a year or more between projects to build up the money needed.

"The half cent sales tax that the voters approved will bring in, hopefully, somewhere between $7-8 million per year. So it's enough for us to do half a mile to a mile worth of construction on a given year," said Schell.

An update on the 43rd Avenue project will go before the city commission on Aug. 13. It will be the first project paid for with the new tax.
