Sports gaming could be coming to North Dakota, and the proceeds wouldn't go to the state, but to charities.

Bismarck Rep. Jason Dockter says he's introducing the bill to give charities more options. Dockter says they'll be able to offer about 20 percent of the amounts of games Las Vegas can and he says the state could save money.

“It puts less burden on the state because those charities and other entities would come to the state and ask to appropriate money for their services. Well this is a way for people already spending their money, you can put some of that money toward sports gaming. They can use that so they don’t have to come to the state and put burden on the general fund,” said Dockter.

The only money the state would receive is to offset costs incurred by the Attorney General’s office. Dockter says he's confident the bill will pass but acknowledges there will be some opposition. He’s still finalizing the bill draft.
