In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, a Bismarck photography studio is making survivors, and those in the midst of their battle, feel beautiful.

Three years ago, Bobbie Elstad was diagnosed with breast cancer. The news that brought a myriad of fears.

Today, Bobbie took a leap of faith when she stepped in front of the camera for the first time, to show her scars.

Elstad let Your News Leader share her story of perseverance, courage, and survival.

"Three years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was probably the scariest moment of my life." "I didn't know if I was going to be able to watch my kids get married, or have grandkids, or whether or not I was going to wake up the next day." "It was time, I don't have to hide behind my scars, they don't define me, they're just a part of me." "I felt really beautiful during the shoot, I don't get that a lot." "I didn't think that my hair or breasts defined me, but it was one of those things that made me feel whole." "It puts a new perspective on life after going through all of that." "If I can beat cancer I can beat anything I've ever wanted to do." "It was my three year anniversary on October 17. It's the day that my life began all over again."

Elstad celebrated her first year of being cancer free on Thursday.
