Bismarck woman charged with concealing drugs, assaulting corrections officer

A Bismarck woman is charged with six felonies and one misdemeanor after concealing drugs and assaulting Burleigh Morton Detention Center officers.

Thirty-one-year-old Jessica Broom is charged with delivery or possession with intention to deliver in a correctional facility, possessing a controlled substance in a correctional facility, aggravated assault, simple assault on a police office, attempt to commit simple assault, tampering with physical evidence and ingesting a controlled substance.

Prosecutors say Bismarck Police brought Broom to the Burleigh Morton Detention Center, where officers believed she was concealing an item from theM.

Officers saw a small baggie Broom was hiding between her legs. When asked to give the bag to officer, Broom refused and attempted to conceal the baggie inside herself.

The affidavit says Broom lunged at officers when trying to stand her up. One officer received a knee and head injury.

Another officer was injured while attempting to control Broom. They later received medical attention for a strained back.

A baggie containing 1 gram of methamphetamine and 4 grams of heroin were recovered.

Broom admitted to officers to taking a pill that contained methamphetamine prior to the attack.
