Evangel church in Bismarck is undergoing some major changes to accommodate its growing congregation. Construction at Evangel is underway as the start of a twofold expansion and renovation project.

The church plans to add an additional 1,500 seat auditorium and lobby to its existing infrastructure. This space will be dedicated to adult services.

This phase is set to be complete by December 2020.

"We've just been busting at the seams for a lot of years. And we kept saying it's a good problem, it's a good problem. But then when you have people driving through the parking lot and they can't find anywhere to park and so they choose not to come, that becomes a bad problem. And so, we are hoping to be able to just host more families," says Lead Pastor Josh Skjoldal.

The next step will be remodeling the existing church and kid's areas.

The current facility will now be used for all children's' services.

This phase is set to be complete in April of 2021.

"We're just trying to take this land that "Evangel" owns and say this is for Bismarck. This is for Mandan. Not just for people who attend our church," Skjoldal explains.

He says the church has plans down the road to add a community playground and possible garden and amphitheater for the whole community to enjoy.

Skjoldal says the majority of the $16 million it will take to execute the project came from member donations and the church's budget.

The changes being made go extend beyond Bismarck.

Evangel opened a new campus in Garrison in early September 2019.
