A Bismarck man accused of punching a police officer has been arrested.

Bismarck Police say they responded to the intersection of 43rd Ave North East and North Washington Street around 9 a.m. Friday morning for reports of two people running into traffic.

When police arrived they spoke to 26-year-old Zachary McLaughlin who was lying on the ground by the intersection.

Police say when they started questioning McLaughlin he asked the officer "if he wanted to die," McLaughlin also started yelling at officers.

When officers attempted to detain McLaughin he's accused of punching the officer in the head and resisting arrest.

Jail records show McLaughlin was arrested for assault of a peace officer, prevent arrest, marijuana possession and fail to appear on a separate Bismarck warrant.
