There's never a good time to be evicted from your home, but the time is drawing near for some residents of Colonial Estates in south Bismarck. They haven't paid their mobile home taxes for years.

The Burleigh County Sheriff's Department says it gives delinquent taxpayers plenty of time to make arrangements to keep their homes. The ones on the verge of being evicted were given a three year grace period before they received a letter in the mail and a warning.

The sheriff's department is accepting sealed bids for the homes until 2 p.m. Friday, with the minimum bid for each one at less than $500. If someone bids on those mobile homes, the ones living there will be promptly evicted.

“We send a letter to each one of those mobile home owners letting them know they are three years behind and letting them know what is due, so they have the opportunity to pay the due amount before the home is advertised for sale,” said Troy Fleck, deputy in the Civil Division.

According to one of the residents in the neighborhood, homeowners have come forward to pay their taxes, they were given until Oct. 15, but there are still four properties up for bid.

For any questions about the sale, you can call Deputy Dan Wentz at 701-222-6651.
