Police: DUII suspect crashes into Woodburn apartment, comes within a foot of hitting sleeping resident

A witness told police the driver struck a parked vehicle, a garbage can, signs and mailboxes before crashing into the apartment.

WOODBURN, Ore. — A suspected drunken driver crashed into a Woodburn apartment early Friday morning, nearly running over a person who was sleeping inside.

The crash occurred at around 1 a.m. in the 100 block of Gatch Street.

A witness told Woodburn police the driver, later identified as 21-year-old Bartolo Hernandez Godinez, was speeding on Gatch Street. Godinez struck a parked vehicle, a garbage can, signs and mailboxes before crashing into the apartment, the witness told police.

One person was sleeping inside the apartment and missed being by struck by less than a foot, according to police. The resident was not injured but was covered by debris.

Godinez was not hurt. A passenger in Godinez’s pickup truck, an 18-year-old man, was hospitalized and is in “stable condition,” police said.

Godinez’s blood alcohol content was 0.14, according to police. He was arrested on charges of DUII, third-degree assault, reckless driving, recklessly endangering another person, criminal mischief.
