SALEM, Ore. — A person was hit and killed while crossing the road in Salem on Monday.
The Salem Police department is investigating the crash which took place just after 6 p.m. on Portland Road near Wayside Terrace Avenue NE. According to police, witnesses to the crash stopped and attempted to administer life-saving measures on the victim, but were unsuccessful.
The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with police at this time.
Portland Road is closed in both directions between Hyacinth Road and Northgate Road NE. It is expected that these roads will be closed for several hours as police work in the area.
