The Wyoming Conference on Aging takes place on October 2-4 at the Hilton Garden Inn of Laramie. The conference will increase awareness of current and emerging challenges around aging in Wyoming, according to the event’s organizers.

Topics to be discussed are healthy aging /community aging projects throughout Wyoming, dementia/Alzheimer's, opioids and medication safety and hoarding, plus support presentations for caregivers.

This conference is for anyone interested in Aging related topics in Wyoming. Wyoming is slated to become one of the oldest states in the union by 2030. This conference aims to increase the awareness of various aging issues. For that the agenda has three separate tracks to follow: a Health care professionals track, a Caregiver track and a track for the general public. Each of these tracks are geared towards discussing issues most applicable to those groups. So no matter who you are, there are presentations and discussions

On October 3, presentations include Hoarding, Caregiving, understanding Medicare and Medicaid, as well as breakouts on estate planning, healthy aging, and opioids.

October 4 features presentations on age friendly Wyoming community projects through AARP, and breakouts on Trauma informed care, and building a dementia friendly community.

The cost is $50 per day Oct. 3-4, or $100 for both days. A preconference training for healthcare/professional services providers will be offered Tuesday, Oct. 2, at a cost of $35.

The conference also will be offered through host sites around the region for those who can't make it to the conference.

Ramsey Alwin of AARP will be discussing the Longevity Economy and the fact the 55-64 demographic has the highest rate of entrepreneurial activity in last 10 years. 1 in 2 business started by someone 50+ (people in 50s and 60s start business at nearly twice the rate of people in 20s)
