The Honolulu City seal will celebrate 110 years this Sunday.

The seal was designed by Denmark native Viggo Jacobsen  through a contest. He won $50.

Over the years, the seal has stood the test of time.

“Our City seal, it is based off the Kingdom shield. Then it went through changes from the Kingdom, to the Republic, to the State by mostly changing its sides,” said Tory Laitila, Honolulu City Registrar.

The seal is used to authenticate all of the City’s official papers.
