OKLAHOMA CITY — A moment in the middle of the night almost turns deadly after police say a man shot his girlfriend by mistake, according to KFOR.
The incident happened in Guthrie just north of Oklahoma City, where the man says he woke up to a startling sound coming from the front door as a dark, shadowy figure came towards him.
Police say the man grabbed his gun, firing several shots.
Caller: "She's shot"
Dispatcher: Say again?"
Caller: "She's shot"
Dispatcher: "Who is shot?"
Dispatcher: "Ok do you know who she is?"
Caller: "Yes, she's my girlfriend."
It turns out it was his girlfriend who stepped outside for a cigarette.
Police say the woman was hit in the arm and is expected to be okay.
The couple had experienced recent break-in attempts.
