Attempted kidnapping reported in Colorado, suspect at large

Police in Colorado are reporting an attempted kidnapping that happened on Monday.

The incident occurred at about 5:45 p.m. in the area of the Grand Avenue Bridge in Grand Junction on the Western Slope.

"Officers worked diligently last night and throughout today to follow up with the victim and to verify the details of the reported incident," Grand Junction Police wrote in a release.

The victim, a 12-year-old girl, was walking home from school after missing the bus. While walking she was reportedly approached by a man while underneath a bridge on a bike path. The man was reportedly armed with a handgun. The victim says the man grabbed her from behind and tried to pull her off the path, but she was able to escape.

The victim was not physically injured.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his 60s, with a white mustache and was wearing a green and gray hat along with blue jeans at the time of the incident. Police say he is "average build and average height."
