Bus ends up in a Colorado river following a head-on crash with a pickup truck

A driver was able to walk away from a head-on crash that left his bus in a river, the people the driver reportedly hit weren't so lucky.

The crash happened just before 1 p.m. on Friday along Highway 6 near Squaw Creek Road. The area is just west of Edwards between Vail and Eagle. Eagle River Fire Protection District is reporting the crash involved an ECO bus and a pickup truck. The bus went over the embankment and into a river.

"The occupants of the pickup were transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries; the bus driver was not injured," Eagle River Fire Protection District wrote on Facebook. "The bus was not transporting passengers at the time of the accident."

Colorado State Patrol is reporting it appears the driver of the bus lost control and traveled across the middle of the road and hit the truck.

The highway was closed for the crash. There was an oil and fuel spill in the Eagle River. Crews were called to the scene to handle the hazardous material spill.

It isn't clear if the driver of the bus will face any charges.
