A woman was killed in a small avalanche Saturday near Ouray.

According to the avalanche report by the state, the ice climber was in the Uncompahgre Gorge just south of Ouray at about 10:30 in the morning. A block of ice broke from the ice climb above her and triggered a small avalanche. The avalanche hit the woman who was standing near the bottom of the climb. The woman was buried and tragically killed.

The woman has been identified as 44-year-old Van Le Little of Seattle. Le Little was reportedly climbing with three other people and had stepped off to the side to take photos when the avalanche occurred. Her companions were not injured.

Ouray is between Montrose and Silverton.
