A hit-and-run suspect made it easy for officers to track him down Saturday evening.

Police say an officer on patrol noticed a "fresh" fluid trail leading from the crash site to an apartment complex -- and to the suspect driver.

The suspect is accused of driving away from the scene after causing a serious crash at the intersection of North Academy Boulevard and San Miguel Street. Early into the investigation, police believe the suspect made an illegal turn from Academy in front of a second vehicle traveling north, causing a near head-on crash. A passenger in the victim vehicle had non-life threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital. The driver of that vehicle was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the suspect vehicle was evaluated for DUI and arrested. He was identified Monday as 48-year-old Joel Ramirez-Mendez.
