A 19-year-old turned himself in over the weekend, two days after Canon City police announced the teen was facing allegations of sexually assaulting a middle school student.

The Canon City Police Department says they received an anonymous Safe2Tell tip on Dec. 8 about the relationship and identified Connor McCain as the suspect following an investigation.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by the Canon City Daily Record, McCain was working as a basketball coach for the Canon City Middle School's boys team before the allegations were made public. The alleged victim attended some of the basketball games, and McCain was seen talking to her there, the affidavit said. The coach who saw the conversation told investigators he didn't see anything inappropriate at the time.

According to the affidavit, McCain touched the girl inappropriately while they watched a movie at an unnamed person's house. The victim told police the touching hurt and she was unable to get away. A similar incident allegedly happened a second time during that month.

McCain told authorities the relationship was consensual, the affidavit said.

McCain faces charges of sexual assault on a child and sexual exploitation of a child.
