NSP: Iowa man flees scene of I-80 crash

OGALLALA, Neb. (KLKN) — Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) troopers arrested an Iowa man after he fled the scene of a crash on I-80 in Keith County.

The crash happened around 8:15 Wednesday morning, near mile marker 130 of I-80. It involved a Nissan Altima and a semi-tractor/truck-trailer. The Altima driver fled the scene on foot following the incident.

Troopers, Ogallala Police Officers, and Keith County Sheriff’s Deputies search the area for about two hours before the driver was reported walking two miles north from the crash site. Upon locating the driver near County Road East 120 and County Road East D. Cooper, Troopers identified him as 31-year-old William Cooper of Sioux City, IA and was taken into custody without incident.

Cooper was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident, obstructing a police officer, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana – less than an ounce, and unauthorized use of a vehicle. Cooper was lodged in Keith County Jail.
