The Kansas Department of Health and Environment reported an increase of 223 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in its first update since Wednesday pushing the statewide total to 10,393 since the outbreak started.The Kansas Department of Health and Environment recently changed how often it will update the public on the confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Sunflower State. The state releases new coronavirus totals and in-depth data reporting on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Previously, Kansas had been releasing total cases, hospitalizations, statewide deaths, negative tests, county-by-county totals and other metrics daily on its website.KDHE officials said the death total remained steady at 222 on Friday.Health officials said 917 patients have been hospitalized since the start of the outbreak. The state said it has 103,260 negative test results and it has identified 101 active clusters of COVID-19 throughout Kansas, including 66 at private industry.State health officials warned earlier we should see higher confirmed cases of COVID-19 as more testing becomes available, some counties catch up in reporting and more cases from correctional facilities and meatpacking plants are reported.Ford County in southwestern Kansas has the most confirmed cases since the start of the outbreak at 1,823, followed by Wyandotte County with 1,508 cases since the outbreak started. Leavenworth County — home to Lansing Correctional Facility — has 1,110 cases, and Johnson County reports 939 cases.The state of Kansas doesn't officially release the number of people that have recovered from COVID-19, but local county health departments across the state have been posting updates in their counties. Local health officials report 4,752 recoveries in Kansas with 499 reported in Wyandotte County, 1,047 in Leavenworth County and 553 in Johnson County.
