Gov. Laura Kelly and area officials held a virtual news conference Wednesday to announce a “major economic development update.”
Commerce officials said Urban Outfitters has selected Kansas City, Kansas, for an ecommerce fulfillment center. It is expected to create up to 2,000 new jobs.
The parent company of clothing and home products retailer Urban Outfitters plans to build a new, 880,000-square-foot distribution center in near the Legends entertainment and shopping district and NASCAR's Kansas Speedway.
Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly joined Mayor David Alvey of the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas, in announcing the project. The Unified Government said ground will be broken on the distribution center in the fall and it should be operating in early 2022.
