UPDATE: Firefighters expect to contain fires near Albion and Lake Walcott by Sunday

UPDATE: 5:46 pm

According to Twin Falls District BLM, firefighters expect to contain the Ridgeline Fire near Albion by 10 pm Sunday evening. The fire has burned 600 acres, and luckily was not able to damage any structures. Control is estimated to be achieved by Tuesday at 10 pm.

The Smith Fire, five miles south of Lake Walcott and north of I-86, has burned 1,350 acres so far. Full containment is expected for 12 p.m. Sunday, and full control is estimated for 6 p.m. Sunday.

UPDATE: 11:00 pm

According to Twin Falls District BLM Fire, the Ridgeline Fire near Albion has been confirmed as to be caused by lightning. The size is estimated at 1,000 acres and a control or contain time is still unknown. Structures are not immediately threatened but there are structures in the area. KMVT has been told structure protection is in place. Multiple resources have been deployed to fight the fire and responders include Twin Falls BLM, the Albion Rural Fire Department, the Cassia Rural Fire Department, the Snake River Hotshot Crew, and the Sawtooth National Forest.

Passing thunderstorms have caused the fire to burn erratically in areas of heavy fuel, making the task of creating containment lines to slow fire progression difficult. According to Twin Falls BLM, additional resources have been ordered to fight the fire.

According to the Twitter account for the Bureau of Land Management Idaho Fire (@BLMIdahoFire), the Ridgeline Fire that's seven miles northeast of Albion is estimated to be at 1,000 acres.

UPDATE 2:12 pm

According to an official with the Twin Falls District Bureau of Land Management, there's a fire last measured at 100 acres 7 miles NE of Albion. It's described as currently running, torching, and spotting in juniper and brush. Resources include 1 air attack, 1 hell-attack, a dozer, 4 engines, the Snake River Hotshots Crew, and a water tender. They're also sending out 2 more single engine air tankers, and a VLAT (Very Large Air Tanker).

The fire is not currently near structures, but if it does creep in to the valley the Albion Rural Fire Department is on scene with structure protection in place. The public is encouraged to stay clear of the area and leave if asked to do so.

the Albion Rural Fire Department, Twin Falls BLM, and the Snake River Hotshot crew are responding to a fire 7 miles north east of Albion.

Per tweet issued by Bureau of Land Management Idaho Fire, the fire is moving aggressively and authorities are asking the public to stay clear of the area, and leave if asked to do so.
