Mosquitoes shouldn't be bugging the people of North Platte as much after the next few days.

Fogging machines hit the streets in the north part of town Tuesday night to control small insects.

The town has seen more mosquitoes this summer than usual, which required the city to take action with the foggers.

Public Service Department Supervisor Lyle Minshull says it's been a few years since they've had to use the machines.

"We were actually kind of caught by surprise this year. This is the first time since 2016 that we've had to fog which was kind of neat since there hadn't been that many mosquitoes. This year we kind of had an early hatch.. We've got it kind of planned out. So hopefully we'll get those mosquitoes and people will be comfortable to go outside again," said Minshull.

The city will fog the central and south parts of town Wednesday and Thursday evening. They aim to be on the streets from 8 pm to midnight.

There are precautions you can take while fogging such as closing your windows and doors and turning off window fans.
