Storms are likely to return later on Sunday afternoon for Knoxville and East Tennessee.

Thunderstorms came through the area on Sunday morning, affecting Knox, Anderson and Blount Counties, producing lightning and gusts of wind. Tim Doyle, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Morristown, said the storms should move out of the area by noon, but lighter rain could stay in the area longer.

There will be a break from the storms in the afternoon, but the chance for stronger storms returns in the late afternoon and evening.

The storms later in the day will bring stronger winds, with the potential of hail and heavy lightening, Doyle said.

Sunday's weather comes after several days of rain and storms, including thunderstorms and tornado warnings issued on Thursday evening and storms throughout the weekend.
