Two pedestrians dead, two others hurt after crashes in Jefferson City

One person is in custody after two crashes in Jefferson City on Monday afternoon left two pedestrians dead and two others hospitalized, police said.

Jefferson City Police Department officers responded around 3:30 p.m. to the area of West Main Street and Russell Avenue.

Police found a vehicle lodged in a building and two pedestrians that had apparently been hit, according to a news release from the department. The two pedestrians were pronounced dead.

An employee who was found hurt inside the building was taken to a local hospital.

Authorities found a third injured pedestrian at another scene on East Main Street, the release states. That person also was taken to a hospital.

The condition of the two people who were hospitalized was not clear Monday night.

Police have not yet released the names of anyone involved.
