UPDATE: Nashville homicide suspect arrested while working as UT-Knoxville custodian

USA TODAY NETWORK - Tennessee

A man arrested at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville Wednesday in connection with a Nashville homicide was working on campus as a part-time custodian, a UT spokeswoman confirmed.

Jyshon Forbes, 25, was arrested around noon by a team of deputy U.S. Marshals, Smoky Mountains Fugitive Task Force officers and officers with the University of Tennessee Police Department, according to a news release.

Earlier this month, a Davidson County grand jury indicted Forbes on charges of robbery and homicide in connection to the February 20, 2018, killing of Shamar "Fifty" Lewis.

Forbes was hired May 14 as a custodial employee in UT's temporary help pool, after being vetted through a background check and calls to references, UT spokeswoman Tyra Haag said. He lost that job following his arrest Wednesday, she added.

Lewis, 34, was fatally shot behind a building at Cobblestone Corners Apartments on Ben Allen Road in Nashville.

"Forbes and two other individuals were indicted for the homicide," the release reads. "With the two other individuals in custody, Forbes was the only remaining suspect left at large."

Jemario Askew, 30, was already in jail when he was charged in April 2018 with first-degree murder in the case. At the time of the fatal shooting, Askew was out of jail on bond in several pending cases, including charges of unlawful possession of guns, felony cocaine possession, driving under the influence and felony aggravated assault.

Richard Felder was identified as another suspect, according to John Sanchez of the U.S. Marshals Service.

U.S. Marshals opened a fugitive investigation into Forbes' whereabouts, and learned he may have relocated to East Tennessee.

Forbes was arrested without incident and taken to the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility, where he will await extradition to Nashville.
