Train derailed near Sutherland and Concord, no injuries
No injuries were reported and no leaks were detected after a cargo train derailed in Knoxville on Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
Seven train cars went off the tracks shortly after 2:30 p.m. at 2040 Sutherland Ave., near the University of Tennessee Facilities Services building, according to Knoxville Fire Department spokesman Capt. D.J. Corcoran.
Police closed Concord Street near Sutherland Avenue.
Three of the train cars were empty, three were carrying "acidic adahydrine," and one was carrying "butyric acid," Corcoran said. The fire department's hazardous materials unit checked for leaks and found none.
"With no leaks and no injuries the incident and scene were returned to Northfolk Southern Railway at 3:08 p.m.," Corcoran said.
