Tennessee's Jeremy Banks vows to take better care of football in Twitter prophecy

Tennessee sophomore Jeremy Banks vowed to take better care of the football in a Twitter prophecy he posted Thursday.

Fumbles hampered Banks throughout his first season at UT. He even moved to linebacker for a brief stretch during October.

Coach Jeremy Pruitt said earlier this month he's unsure where he'll deploy Banks this season, but, at least according to Banks' social media post, he'll begin the spring at running back.

Banks directed his Twitter crystal-gazing to Memphis quality control analyst Carlos Locklyn, who was Banks' offensive coordinator at Cordova High School.

"This is my football," Banks' note read. "There are many like it, but this one is mine. My football is the heart beat of the team. I will master carrying it as I must master my life. I must carry my football with 4 points of pressure at all times. When in battle there's always a threat, own the ball, cross on contact ... Lock theory."

Banks signed as a three-star prospect in Pruitt's first recruiting class. The 6-foot-1, 211-pounder runs with fury. He gained 185 yards on 52 carries and scored three touchdowns last season but only had 11 carries in the final seven games, all of which came against Charlotte.

The running back room got more competitive after the Vols signed four-star recruit Eric Gray, an early enrollee. Ty Chandler and Tim Jordan, the team's top two rushers from last season, returned.

Tennessee running back Jeremy Banks (33) fumbles the ball during the Tennessee Volunteers' game against Georgia in Sanford Stadium in Athens, Ga., on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018.
