14-year-old charging phone in dad's truck is beaten, carjacked
Police say a 14-year-old was charging his phone in his dad’s car when a man viciously attacked him.
Isaiah Sanchez says he was at a pool party with his father when he went to the truck to charge his phone.
He saw a man walking toward him, but said he ignored him.
Isaiah said the man had a dog and told him he was tired of walking.
"He put his dog in the back of the truck and he got in and he was, like, 'My house is just a two-three-minute drive. Can you drive me there?'" Isaiah said.
Isaiah said he was forced to drive the man to a Rio Rancho neighborhood where things took an ugly turn.
"He was, like, 'You better get out or your dad's going to have to attend a funeral,'" Isaiah said.
Isaiah said the man reached for his phone that was inside his pocket.
"I remember hitting his hand away from me and then the next second we're throwing blows in the truck,” he said.
Isaiah said he blacked out and when he woke up he was surrounded by people who lived in the neighborhood.
When Isaiah’s mother saw him next, she said she hardly recognized him.
“His face was very, very bruised. He had blood all over his face and mouth. His eyes were really puffy,” Jessica Sanchez told KOAT.
Rio Rancho police say they found the truck Monday morning but are still searching for the man.
At this time police don’t know the name of the suspect but residents in the area where Isaiah first saw the man have provided investigators with surveillance of a man walking his dog around the time of the incident.
Police are hoping to find the man seen in those photos to bring him in for questioning.
Isaiah’s mom said he wants the man found.
"I'm mad. I'm very angry. They need to find him so that we can put this to rest and Isaiah can rest knowing that this guy been caught and his not out there and is not going to do this to someone else,” she said.
