Two of world's biggest companies are doing business right here in New Mexico
In the Village of Los Lunas, there are vintage trucks and red chile ristras. There is also one of the world's high-tech giants.
Facebook opened its billion dollar data center in February.
Local business owners say Facebook employees have helped the economy and like New Mexican food.
"We get so many of the Facebook employees, and it's been really nice because they're from all over. There are a lot of transplants," said Johnnah Torres, owner of Teofilo's New Mexican restaurant.
Workers with the New Mexico Economic Development Department say Facebook employs more than 100 people with a goal of hiring a total of 300 in the next three years. In 2016, the state forked over $10 million taxpayer dollars to get Facebook here.
"We have already seen, in gross receipts tax collections alone, $25 million," said Mark Roper, with New Mexico Economic Development Department. He says the average salary for a Facebook employee is $65,000.
Another company giant, Netflix, is also doing business in New Mexico.
Late last year, Netflix took over Albuquerque Studios. On Thursday a Netflix representative said the company is keeping the name, but you will notice a lot of N's around the studios.
The city and state payed $14.5 million to lure the company to New Mexico, with the promise that it would stay here at least 10 years and spend $1 billion in production.
As far as jobs, "We're going to announce those next week so I'm giong to hold off on some of those numbers, but I can tell you we're well on our way to getting there," said Nick Maniatis, a Netflix employee.
He says the company already spent $2 million renovating the studios.
