New Mexico drivers will want to keep an eye out over the next couple of days as a massive piece of equipment is being transported from Los Alamos to Clovis.
No, it's not a missile, but it's just as big as one and it's traveling the New Mexico highways right now.
It's actually a massive rotor, nearly 70 feet long.
When it's on the trailer the total weight is almost 700,000 pounds.
This is one of the biggest cargoes that drivers will ever see transported on the roadways and it's expected to take days to get to its final destination.
“It probably is the largest haul we've seen through city limits, especially Santa Fe,” New Mexico Department of Transportation spokesperson Marisa Maez said.
Maez said the cargo got through the state capital pretty easily this morning.
“The drivers were not as inconvenienced as they could have been, so we could not have asked for a better haul at this point,” Maez said.
Sky 7 caught up with the caravan, which included New Mexico State Police, NMDOT and Los Alamos National Laboratory crews as they got on to Highway 285 and headed for Clines Corners.
State police were doing their best to get oncoming traffic off the road.
Even then, it was obvious how wide of a load it was and how close it got to other vehicles, even when they pull onto the shoulder.
This map shows the entire trip the cargo will have to make, from Los Alamos, to Santa Fe, to Clines Corners and eventually, to Clovis.
If you see it on the road the next couple of days, slow down and make way.
“Don't get impatient. Don't try and pass these big, heavy hauls because they are just too large for you to take any chances,” Maez said.
Once the massive rotor arrives in Clovis in a few days, it will be loaded on a train and transported to Virginia for repairs.
