Clerk shot during robbery at Oklahoma City convenience store
Police are asking for the public's help finding a gunman who shot a clerk during an armed robbery Friday at a northwest Oklahoma City store.
Shortly before 12:30 p.m., the man went into the R-N Quick Stop near Northwest 31st Street and North Portland Avenue and gave the clerk money. The clerk gave the man his change and was looking down when the suspect pulled out a gun and shot him, surveillance footage shows.
"He just bought one small Red Bull, and he was giving him change," store owner Muhammad Javed said. "The second thing he did ... just shot him. Twice. I looked at the video. This guy didn't even ask him for money."
The man fired a shot, hitting the clerk in the stomach.
"He came around, took the money and, when he was taking the money, he shot him again," Javed said.
The man grabbed cash from the register and ran east, across the parking lot. The clerk, who was on the floor, called 911 for help.
"He was in and out but was able to give the first officer a description of the suspect and tell him what happened," said Lt. Ron Hendricks, with the Oklahoma City Police Department.
The clerk, who has worked at the store for 17 yeas, was taken to an area hospital in critical condition. Police said he's expected to survive.
"He's my best employee," Javed said. "Very nice guy. Very honest guy."
Anyone who recognized the gunman is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 405-235-7300 or send a tip online.
