FEMA grants disaster assistance for 7 more counties in Oklahoma
FEMA has approved the state's request for disaster assistance for seven more Oklahoma counties affected by flooding, tornadoes and severe storms since May 7, Gov. Kevin Stitt announced Tuesday.Disaster assistance has been granted for individuals and businesses in Delaware, Kay, Mays, Okmulgee, Payne, Pottawatomie and Sequoyah counties, a news release states. Over the weekend, FEMA approved assistance for Canadian, Creek, Logan, Osage, Ottawa, Rogers and Washington counties.The designation makes federal assistance available for housing repairs or temporary housing, U.S. Small Business Administration low-interest loans for people and businesses to repair and replace damaged property, disaster unemployment assistance and grants for serious needs and necessary disaster expenses that aren't met by other programs, according to a news release."Gov. Stitt stressed that the state will continue to request additional counties be added to the Individual Assistance Major Disaster Declaration as damage assessments of impacted homes and businesses are completed," the news release stated.Individuals and business owners who need to apply for disaster assistance can call FEMA at 1-800-621-3362 or can do so online. FEMA also will have disaster survivor assistance teams on-site in the declared counties to help people register for aid.Last month, President Donald Trump declared a major disaster in three counties -- Muskogee, Tulsa and Wagoner -- that experienced record-breaking flooding and intense tornadoes. Emergency protective measures, limited to direct federal assistance, also will be provided in Haskell, Kay, Le Flore, Noble, Osage, Pawnee and Sequoyah counties.
