Oregon City, Ore. (KOIN) — Police say a man followed and assaulted a bicyclist Sunday in Oregon City.

The incident started around 2:00 p.m. when a 57-year-old man was riding his bicycle on 99E and swerved to avoid glass in the bike lane, according to police. A passing driver allegedly honked and yelled at him. The bicyclist continued to Clackamette Park, unaware that the driver was still following him. That’s when the driver, 24-year-old Molalla resident Joshua Harmon, ran into the rear tire of the bicycle, knocking the other man over, police said.

Harmon then got out of the car and attacked the injured bicyclist, until he realized a witness was calling police, according to officials. Harmon allegedly took off in his car, but was taken into custody later that evening on charges of assault and failure to perform the duties of a driver.

The victim was taken to the hospital and has been released.
