PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Oregon will hold a hearing on Tuesday afternoon in regards to the lawsuit against President Donald Trump’s new Title X “gag rule.”

The legal battle involves 20 states and the District of Columbia.

Title X is the only federal grant program that funds family planning programs to help low-income patients. The program provides access to contraception, cancer screenings, wellness exams, treatments for sexually transmitted infections and more.

The new restriction by the Trump administration would prevent any provider receiving Title X funding from giving patients full information about all of their sexual and reproductive health care options, including abortion services.

In early March, Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum led a group of 21 state attorney generals to file a lawsuit challenging the new rule. The complaint was filed in Eugene.

On Tuesday, attorneys from the Oregon Department of Justice will make arguments on behalf of all the states listed as plaintiffs in the lawsuit.

The hearing on the issue will start at 1 p.m. at the federal courthouse in Portland.

Without a national injunction, the rule will go into effect on May 3.
