PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Portland, Vancouver, Salem, Silverton, Eugene, Bend and Medford are among the more than 130 cities across the country that held rallies Saturday calling for the impeachment of President Donald Trump.

Many lawmakers are beginning to consider opening an impeachment inquiry against the president in light of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report on Russian interference in the 2016 election, CBS News reports.

In Portland, ralliers gathered at 10:30 a.m. at Terry Schrunk Plaza to hear speakers, including Rep. Earl Blumenauer and Kayse Jama of Unite Oregon. The Portland rally was organized by Indivisible Oregon, NWGSD and Stand on Every Corner PDX.

Blumenauer and Suzanne Bonamici have publicly called for impeachment proceedings. In all, about 60 Democrats announced publicly they’re in favor of an impeachment inquiry.

Another rally was held at Esther Short Park and was scheduled to include a public reading of the US House of Representatives Resolution 257, “Inquiring whether the House of Representatives should impeach Donald Trump.”

Justin Amash of Michigan is the only Republican who has publicly said he’s in favor of impeaching the president.

Only 2 presidents in US history were impeached — Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton. Neither was removed from office. Richard Nixon would have been impeached but resigned before the House of Representatives took the vote.
