Carson City gun range closes for lead reclamation

The Carson City Rifle and Pistol Range will be closed until Jan. 17 for lead reclamation operations, Carson City said Friday. All shooting activities, including reservations and public use, are canceled during reclamation for safety reasons.

American Range LLC. will mine lead primarily on the berms and backstops. Heavy equipment will separate lead out of the soils. All mined lead will be recycled by the contractor. This project is being conducted at no cost to the city.

The National Rifle Association and the United States Environmental Protection Agency recommend lead reclamation, Carson City said.

Range operators expect the range to reopen on Jan. 18, but that could change based on weather.
