Food for Thought, Inc. will continue serving free summer lunches to children this year after previously announcing it was suspended the program due to a lack of money.

The organization is still $8,000 short and asks for the public’s help to make up the shortfall.

The free lunches will be served to children younger than 18 Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to noon at The Bridge Church at 901 N. Stewart St. in Carson City from June 17 to Aug. 9. Adults are not eligible and lunches must be eat on site.

In 2018 the number of children eating the lunches dropped, plus grant money dried up, prompting plans to end the summer lunch program.

Food for Thought reports several groups approached them to continue to offer the lunches. The group partnered with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to get some of the money needs but needs about $8,000 more. Donations can be made at NVFoodForThought.org or people can mail it or drop it off at: 3246 N. Carson St., Suite 118, Carson City, NV 89706.
