Gov. Steve Sisolak has made the first two appointments to a new Nevada state marijuana industry oversight panel.

He announced Friday that retired Supreme Court Justice Michael Douglas will chair the Cannabis Compliance Board, and retired Nevada Gaming Control Board Chairman Dennis Neilander will work with Douglas to create the five-member enforcement body.

The Democratic governor pushed for creation of the board during the Legislature last year. He compares its structure and role to the state Gaming Control system. The Democratic governor said “regulatory groundwork” will begin following the appointment of three more board members in coming weeks.
