The community is mourning the death of a 5-year-old Albuquerque girl allegedly beaten for not doing her homework.
Police say 5-year-old Sarah Dubois-Gillbeau died after her father, 36-year-old Brandon Reynolds, struck her with a shoe at their apartment near Carlisle and Gibson Thursday night. Reynolds had a different story when first responders got on scene initially but later admitted to the beating, saying he blacked out and didn’t know what he was doing.
KRQE News 13 spoke with neighbors who were stunned by the alleged murder and began setting up a memorial for Sarah Friday night.
“We used to play with each other probably, and I knew her as a sister and I just always loved her,” said 7-year old Aleyah Edwards.
KRQE News 13 crews were told Sarah was a sweet, shy girl who loved pink, purple and blue. Police say she recently moved to New Mexico from California to live with her father.
