Since most of the Albuquerque area was shut down by snow Tuesday, most people found themselves with an extended holiday weekend.
“I was confused because I thought maybe we were getting towards the end of winter,” said Jasmine Hathorn.
“I won’t lie, I was disappointed about snow because I’m ready for winter to be over, but then the more I thought about it, like, ‘Hey we might get out of work today,'” said Troy McBride.
With most of the city shut down, many were endlessly scrolling through Netflix, others were reaching new heights.
“I wanted to get out and do something active because it’s kind of hard to find time. You’re just crunched for time during school,” said Joaquin Valdez.
Meanwhile, other UNM students were regretting getting ahead over the weekend.
“If I knew it was going to be a snow day I probably would have procrastinated on my homework,” said Trevor Amestoy.
At Three Birds Cafe, employees said Tuesday was busier usual.
“For a Tuesday we definitely have gotten a lot more people, especially a lot more deliveries because we do deliveries through Grub Hub and Door Dash so it’s been dinging all day,” said Hathorn.
For a group of electrical linemen, a snow day meant perfecting their form.
“It was considered I guess more of a safety issue for working energized lines and wet conditions,” McBride said.
For a nurse and her family, a break from school meant quality time they don’t normally get.
“It’s hard when you’re working graveyard. You don’t get as much time with your family, so it’s kind of a nice treat,” said Felicia Garcia.
Because city workers got the day off, the BioPark was closed, which meant no aquarium.
State workers in Albuquerque also got a free day, so the Explora and Natural History Museums were closed, taking some popular family-friendly options off the table.
